I have to start out this month talk-ing about our DE program. We had two very successful, large turnout, car inspection sessions before the track day. There were many new faces, including some of the same ones we saw at our DE 101 class in February. And then there was the great day we had on the Track at Thunderhill! If you were there, you know that the heavy rain forecast was all wrong, we even had some sunshine. The revised registra-tion and car check procedures worked very well. There were many smiles and happy people walking around the paddock area all day. I should add, it was extremely wet for the drive home, but that was on public highways, a much different environment.

The Keller Winery tour on February 11th was great! We had a big turnout (including other PCA regions), nice weather and good food. We saw many multi-million dollar, very rare cars in both un- restored and restored condition. Thanks to Lillie and Bela for putting this together.

We had a standing room only turnout for our very first DE 101. Lot's of good information for newcomers and those thinking of doing, or already signed up for a track day. Thunderhill DE on March 16th is filling up fast and may sell out. Thanks to Mike Roberts and his DE team for getting us off to a great DE start this year.

Doug Wiebe

The Extravaganza lived up to its name!! We had a fantastic turnout of 75 people, great cars to look at (ours and the museum's), excellent food, and very well deserved awards for some of our members. Special thanks to Jacquie Lietz for putting this event together. The planning for this event started early last year. I would like to thank David Ray for his presentation, and congratulate all the recipients of the various awards. One of our most prestigious awards, the John Cleaver Award, went to Walt and Jacquie Lietz. It is the Chapter's humble way of trying to acknowledge all the support they've given and continue to give to the club. I believe you get the most out of the club by being involved. And they sure are involved!

This month we have the Super Bowl party, Keller Estate Tour, Death Valley tour, and Africa slide show. Yes, that's every weekend this month!

Doug WeibeAs we start off 2012, I feel very honored to be President of this chapter. I look forward to working with a great Board of Directors, some new, some returning. We still have chairmanship positions that are open, but as of now, here are the roles of your new board:

LUIS SOLER, who has much club experience with Driver's Ed, tours, and our sponsors, will be our Vice President and Membership Chairman. Starting in January, he will also be doing the e-mail blasts.

KAY MALOY remains our Chapter Secretary, Newsletter editor, document keeper, DE registrar, and so much more.

Walt LietzWow, it looks like we are ending 2011 with a bang! I want to wish all our members a happy holiday season and let’s count our blessings one more time. First, on a personal note, Jacquie has finished her last chemo treatment just before Thanksgiving - so we should be back to touring any time now! Secondly the club is in the best shape ever.

  • We have a great 2012 plan for tours, events, and driver education.
  • Financially the Diablo Region is doing very well.
  • Our member count is at a record high with 1,009 members.
  • Our October DE event had over 40 drivers show up on a weekday.
  • We donated over $1,000 to charities.
