Students will return to school in a few weeks, but not everybody is ready - foster children in Contra Costa County need your help! Diablo Charity Chair Ingrid French and the Board asks Diablo members to donate backpacks filled with school supplies as described below - click on the Read More link for details.

Bring backpacks you've prepared to any of the Diablo Saturday breakfast meetings before August 18th, and members working with Ingrid will make sure they're collected and passed on to Contra Costa County Social Services for distribution to the foster kids who need them.

What can we do?

Each member can donate a backpack, supplies, money or any combination. There is a list of suggested supplies at the bottom of this flyer. There are several stores (Target, WalMart, Office Max, Staples) that have reasonable prices and a good variety of materials.

How do I get the donation to the right people?

Bring your donation to any of the scheduled Saturday breakfasts or events. If you are donating money, you can make the check payable to Diablo/PCA with the notation “Project Ready to Learn” on the check and mail it to: P.O. Box 1047, Livermore, CA 94551-1047.

What kind of backpack?

Any sort of backpack suitable for students in one of the three age ranges described below. Please,no red or blue backpacks due to the potential for gang affiliation.

What do I put in the backpack?

The table below provides suggestions on how to load a backpack for students in grades K-3, 4-8, or high school. Please use masking tape to label the backpack with the grade range you targeted and either B for Boy, G for Girl, or ES for either sex.
